Context

Some in-editor screenshots of the central architectural feature of Tempus Irae Redux’s level “Downward Spiral”, which I’m posting as illustrative material for my level soundtrack commentary. James Hastings-Trew designed the interior and made all the textures and landscapes; I designed the exterior. Click any image to enlarge it.

I posted a gameplay preview on YouTube on 2024-01-04; however, several aspects of the level and gameplay have since changed, and the level music we were using at the time has been moved elsewhere in the game.

The numbers in the top-left corner are editor jargon, explained here. At some point I’ll take newer screenshots that don’t include them.

If you somehow wound up here without context, Tempus Irae Redux is a forthcoming overhaul of Tempus Irae, a 1997 add-on for Bungie’s classic Marathon trilogy (1994-1996), which it would not be even slightly inaccurate to call the Doom to Halo’s Quake. (Currently, it requires Aleph One to play on modern systems.)

I wasn’t involved with the original Tempus Irae, but James (who was) and I have done about 75% of the work for Redux; my contributions include a new level, expansions to existing levels, bug fixes, thousands of lines of Lua script, remasters or remixes of every sound in the game, and some two hours of (mostly) original music.

Redux will be available soon™. (We’ve overshot enough estimates that I’ve learned to stop giving official dates.)
